The Dolphins host the Colts at Hard Rock Stadium later today so it’s Writers picks time once more.
It was a heartbreaking way to lose in Vegas, giving up a 14-point lead and then coming storming back late in the game to tie it up on a 2-pt conversion, only to lose in overtime. But those are the games that either build character or break a team. Which will it be for the Dolphins?
After 3 quarters of Jacoby Brissett being Jacoby Brissett, he became a bit more JB in the fourth. But which persona will the Dolphins QB take on against the Colts.
For their part the Colts have been decimated by injuries and have looked a shadow of the playoff team from last season. That said they’ve lost to three likely playoff teams in the Seahawks, Rams, and Titans. So they’re a hard one to gauge probably heading into week 4.
WRITERS PICKS WEEK 4: DOLPHINS vs COLTS
RAYS PICK: MIAMI 17 INDIANAPOLIS 13
The one thing we still know about the Dolphins is that we have an elite defence. The offense at times looks good, but generally looks exactly the same unit as we saw in 2020. With the Colts suffering from multiple injuries on both sides of the ball and struggling for form this is the Dolphins ideal game right now.
I expect another somewhat cagey affair as that what Brian Flores likes. Make sure the offence does just enough to win and play great defence. Dolphins win another squeaker that’s not going to be the prettiest game to watch.
JMRS PICK: MIAMI 26 INDIANAPOLIS 17
How difficult is this one to predict? We’re far from our best and the Colts are arguably in an even worse state.
Their off season moves haven’t worked out well, they’re also subject to QB rumours despite the addition of Carson Wentz in the off season, and their OLine is peppered with injuries.
With all that in mind, and after the valient show of fight to pull ourselves into Overtime against the Raiders, I remain confident in our chances.
I think the Brissett and Gesicki connection got rolling last week and we could see TE1s first TD of the season this week. I also think the likes of Emmanuel Ogbah and Jaelan Phillips could cause their patched up line problems and would love to see #15 get his first NFL sack this weekend.
With all that in mind, I don’t expect a pretty game, I expect an ugly slog from both sides with plenty of action for the Punters.
But I think we come out on top, and win this game.
RICKYS PICK: MIAMI 34 INDIANAPOLIS 27
The Colts enters the Dolphins matchup without a win with the Dolphins lone win coming from Tua’s only full game played this season before being injured early in the second game of the season. Jacoby Brissett has filled in after Tua’s injury to no avail. However, this week should be different. Early on in the year, I predicted the Colts to be one of the worst teams in the NFL behind last year’s interception leader, Carson Wentz.
I don’t see the Colts beginning a winning streak this week. I feel the Dolphins winning chances are way better if Tua was in the game but am confident that Brissett can get the job done this week. The Dolphins biggest challenge will be Jonathan Taylor in the run game. I believe this will be a breakout game for Waddle and will be the playmaker to make the difference in the win.
RICHARDS PICK: MIAMI 21 INDIANAPOLIS 10
This really is a must win game. Lose this, and it’s a long road to get in the play offs. Playing against a 0-3 Colts who have lots of injuries, including the offensive line and Quenton Nelson, Darius Leonard and Carson Wentz, we have to capitalise on this chance.
Hopefully some match ups will work in our favour and we can exploit the Colts’ weak secondary with our threats at WR and utilise the speed of Fuller and Waddle with some deep shots. Who knows, we may even get a PI call this week if we’re lucky.
Defensively, we might be able to shut down their passing game if we can get in Wentz’s face as he won’t be as mobile with two sprained ankles. Jonathan Taylor will be an important man to nullify too and let’s hope Wilkins and Elandon Roberts can continue to make a high number of tackles.
Let’s capitalise on home field advantage and take the win, with the turnover streak continuing too.
JACOBS PICK: MIAMI 27 INDIANAPOLIS 17
After another gut punch loss for the Dolphins in Vegas last week, their week 4 matchup against the Colts will be a crucial one if this team wants to get back on track.
With a handful of starters being out for Indianapolis, I expect to see Miami take advantage right from the start. Brissett will have another 200+ yard game with a couple of TDs. Mike Gesicki will pick up where he left off last week and get his first touchdown of the 2021 season, as the Dolphins win at home.
JAYS PICK: MIAMI 17 INDIANAPOLIS 12
The Dolphins really have to prove their worth in this game and there can’t be any excuses post game. The Colts are decimated with key injuries and whilst we have to deal with our own, they’re not at the same level. This is the perfect time for the coaches to take the reigns off the offence and just let them play.
The line held up much better last week and I’m hoping for more of the same this week. I’d also like to see some deeper shots taken down field and better utilisation of the offensive weaponry. If they lose…big questions of the coaching staff and head office will surely be asked!
