Mohamed Sanu’s tenure as a Miami Dolphin is already over before it really began as the veteran WR became the first of a long-list of names to be cut this week.
Sanu was thought to be reasonably safe on the tail-end of the WR depth chart after signing a $1.12-million contract as recently as July 26th. However, the former Falcon, Patriot, Lion, and most-recently 49er has failed to stick in Miami.
Mohamed Sanu we never really knew you
Sanu only saw the field for 61 snaps in the Dolphins preseason, and given his advancing years didn’t really have any value as a special teams player. He caught 3 passes for 39 yards in the opening preseason game, but saw only 1 target over the remaining two games.
New WR coach Wes Welker has made a big impact on the younger WR’s on the roster, and the emergence of Erik Ezukanma as the big-bodied WR has most likely contributed to the team moving on from Sanu this quickly.
The Dolphins WR room still boasts Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson, Erik Ezukanma as locks to make the 53-man roster. Outside of those Trent Sherfield, Rivercraft, and Lynn Bowden Jr look to be fighting over the remain two spots. Braylon Sanders and Tanner Conner are also in contention but seem more likely to be practice squad candidates.
Preston Williams most likely put the final nail in his Dolphins career muffing a punt on Saturday against the Eagles. Stay tuned as the roster cutdown massacre continues.
