The Miami Dolphins have signed WR Jaylen Waddle to a monster extension of $84.75 million over 3-years with $76-million guaranteed.
It is the third most in guaranteed money for a WR, and the annual average over the extension would make Waddle the 4th-highest paid WR in the league. It remains to be seen if this triggers fellow WR Tyreek Hill into wanting a new deal as Miami experienced with Xavier Howard a few years back.
Dolphins lock Waddle down after daft trade rumours
“As I said in the middle of the season, I have no thoughts of trading Jaylen Waddle,” GM Chris Grier said in February. “We want him here for a long time, and we think he’s a big part of our now and our future here. He’s a great person on and off the field, and we still think, as good as he is, he still has runway to keep getting better.”
The Dolphins are still working on an extension for QB Tua Tagovailoa who is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and will also have to deal with extensions for Jaelan Phillips, and Jevon Holland in the near future.
The deal leaves the Dolphins nearly $9-million over the cap for the 2025 season, although there’s a long way to go before then.
