Dolphins edge Jaelan Phillips has confirmed the tear of his achilles tendon in the week 12 win over the New York Jets on Black Friday.
“It’s just disbelief,” Phillips said on HBO’s In-Season Miami Dolphins’ Hard Knocks. “I was feeling on top of the world. I was balling out. It’s crazy too because Mike McDaniel came up to me before the game and said something along the lines of, ‘This is your opportunity to establish yourself as a star in this league. Prime time, first Black Friday game and everyone in the world is watching. These last couple weeks I’ve been feeling like I’ve had the most confidence since I’ve been in the league.”
JAELAN PHILLIPS BEST SEASON CUT SHORT
Phillips was on course for his best season since being selected with the 18th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. His 6.5 sacks was just 1.5 shy of his career best with six games still to go in the season. Phillips also recorded his first career interception to help seal the Dolphins week 11 win over the Raiders.
But teammate Bradley Chubb is helping Jaelan Phillips approach the long rehab with the right frame of mind, “You’re either going to be better from it, or you’re going to be worse from it, and you got to choose, you got to make that decision early in the rehab process. Each day approach it like, ‘I’m going to be better from this.’ “
