We are now just entering week 8 of the 2021 NFL season and everything that could’ve gone wrong for the Miami Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa has indeed gone wrong, and it has been nothing short of a nightmare for a year with so much excitement and aspirations. The Dolphins currently stand at 1-6 with devastating losses to the Atlanta Falcons and the Jacksonville Jaguars, who hadn’t won a game since week 1 of the 2020 season. Unfortunately, that is just the beginning of the madness that is currently taking place within the franchise.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned from his stint on the IR a couple of weeks ago just in time for the Dolphins matchup against the Jaguars in London. Since returning from the IR Tua is 65/87 passing with 620 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions in two games thus far.
Despite very productive outings from the 23-year-old QB from Alabama Miami still has yet to come out with a victory since their week 1 matchup against the Patriots, and the fanbase has been completely divided over the discussion of Tagovailoa’s future as a Miami Dolphin. With that being said a familiar name has continued floating around the past couple of weeks amongst trade rumors and is starting to look more real every day as the trade deadline approaches.
Deshaun Watson incoming?
Rumors surrounding Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson being traded to the Miami Dolphins date back all the way to January of this year, but these rumors were of course put on an immediate hault when Watson was faced with 22 sexual misconduct accusations that have prevented him from seeing the field indefinitely. Little to no progress has been made in the resolution of Watson’s allegations but that apparently hasn’t stopped Miami’s pursuit in acquiring the 26-year old star quarterback.
It seems to be more than clear that Deshaun Watson has been on the Miami front office’s radar for quite some time and according to reports Miami is just an update on Watson’s legal issues away from finally pulling the trigger on finalizing a deal, and they may have gotten that update shortly after yesterday’s rumor was surfaced.
No official punishment has yet to be handed down from the league against Watson, but that doesn’t change the fact that it still can happen any day as the league and authorities’ investigation continues into his cases. There is no word on the terms of the potential deal Miami has discussed with Houston, but earlier reports showed that the Texans asking price for Watson remained exceptionally high even with the possibility of him never playing football again.
Tua Tagovailoa’s time in Miami may be very short
Only time is going to tell about the current ordeal with Deshaun Watson and fans cannot be more thrilled to get an answer with the NFL trade deadline being 6 days away. Whether you like it or not this is not a risk Miami should be taking under any circumstances. For a team that is trying to build for long-term success investing a load of first round picks into a QB with a highly uncertain future in the NFL is just simply irresponsible. especially when there are other things to address that are standing in the way of success for the Miami.
Tua Tagovailoa’s career stats currently stand at 2,649 passing yards, 18 TDs, and 9 interceptions in 14 games. We have yet to what the man is capable of with a healthy, and capable starting receiver core, and a line that doesn’t have him running for his life every other play. It is going to be really interesting to see how Tua responds this week against Buffalo in enemy territory.
