Dolphins select huge Paul with 55th pick

The Dolphins have selected Houston OT Patrick Paul with the 55th pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

At 6’7″ and 315-pounds Paul is a massive mountain of a man and is hoped to be the future of the left tackle position once Terron Armstead retires. He’s definitely a little raw, like several OL the Dolphins have taken in recent years.

But he talks a great game and Paul was delighted to be picked by the Dolphins.

“I remember talking to Chris at the Senior Bowl and it was a great conversation that me and him had. Then just moving on forward at the Combine,” Paul said.

Dolphins hope Paul’s hands catch up to his brain

“It was amazing,” Paul said. “Really getting to spend that much time with them, I knew that I wanted to be coached by coach McDaniel and offensive line coach Butch Barry and it was amazing. It was something I knew from the minute I started talking to them that I wanted to be a Miami Dolphin, so this is a blessing.”

“I met him about two years ago at an O-Line Masterminds,” Paul said. “He’s been a master at his craft for a very long time, so I’m excited to get in there and get in that o-line room and learn from him.”

Paul is a divisive figure among draftniks, with some, like the Dolphins, having a second-round grade on him, and some having fourth round grades.

PFF.com said this of him, “Paul’s size alone makes him worth betting on, and the improvement in his fundamentals from 2022 to 2023 was encouraging. He has the frame of a starting-caliber offensive tackle but does need to get quicker and more fundamentally sound — particularly with his hands and feet — to become a reliable long-term lineman.”
