When the Dolphins offence was on the field it was mostly a question of who they were playing that affected there potency, and big play ability. But it wasn’t just the offence, the defence was the exact same way
Dolphins offensive woes
Let’s start with how Mike McDaniels offense performed against bad teams and winning teams. Let’s start with the obvious the Dolphins points dropped off from 37 ppg to 16.1 ppg. That’s a massive drop of three touchdowns per game.
There were 6 less first downs, passing yards dropped 98 yards per game (down from 310.67 to 212.14) and rush yards dropped by 53 yards per game.
Dolphins defensive woes
However, when we look at the other side of the ball, we see that Vic Fangio‘s unit did pretty much the same thing. Points conceded went up from 18.44 per game to 31.86. Again, a massive increase. Obviously with the offence on the field less this will contribute, but that’s not the only factor.
Pass yards went up from 189 per game to 274 per game, while rushing went up from 96 to 118.
So in every category, every single one, the Dolphins were worse against good teams. Now you’d probably expect that, but these differences aren’t minor changes they are huge.
The points difference alone of a -34 points is shocking, and mostly due to a massive drop-off from the offense.
