Dolphins badly beaten 31-17 by Eagles

It was supposed to be a statement win for the Dolphins in Philadelphia on Sunday night, but the Eagles had other ideas as they handed the Dolphins a 31-17 beating.

The Dolphins came out slowly, managing only negative rush yards in the first half, and being held to 3 points until just before the half when Tua Tagovailoa found Tyreek Hill down the right-hand sideline for a 27-yard score. It was to prove the Dolphins only offensive touchdown on the night.

DOLPHINS COMEBACK COMES UP SHORT

Miami tied the game at 17-17 in the third quarter on Jerome Bakers pick-6 but it was to prove fruitless as the Eagles scored another TD on their next possession. Driving towards the tying score, Tua threw a poor interception that was both a bad decision and a bad throw. In fairness to him the routes were far to congested, so there was plenty of blame to go around.

It was to prove decisive as the Eagles took the ball, and 6:35 off the clock, as they marched down the field and scored their fourth and final touchdown of the night.

After the game Mike McDaniel tried to put a positive spin on it, “You have to feel what it’s like to play such a good team on the road,” McDaniel said. “Your margin for error is so small. It’s an important building block along your progression for the season. If you’re going to lose games, you want it to be against a really good team and you want it to hurt.”

But it was telling how bad the Dolphins running attack was, one of the keys for Miami this season has been their balance, but they could only manage 45 yards on the ground all night. After the game Eagles HC Nick Sirianni said, “We made them one-dimensional”. It was a succinct way to frame the Dolphins poor offensive performance on the night.

Dolphins fans would dearly love to win one of these big games. And soon.
