Myles Gaskin placed on Covid list, OUT Sunday

Miami Dolphins running back Myles Gaskin has been confirmed as out for tomorrow’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Miami Dolphins confirmed this evening. The 2019 seventh-round pick had established himself as the Fins starting running back this season and last week put up a career-high 141 yards from scrimmage in Sunday’s win against the Cincinnati Bengals. For more on that game, read Andy’s game review.

Myles Gaskin was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday and will not be able to play Sunday against the Chiefs, Tom Pelissero reported. Essentially what that means is that Myles Gaskin has done one of two things. Either he has tested positive for COVID-19, or he has been in close contact with someone who has actually tested positive for the virus. Dolphins running back Matt Breida is actually already on the reserve/COVID-19 list, so there could be something in that.

Who can step in for Myles Gaskin?

That leaves a massive hole at the running back position for the Miami Dolphins. They will already be without Salvon Ahmed who’s nursing a shoulder injury, on top of Myles Gaskin and Breida. Because of that, we will likely see DeAndre Washington, formerly of Kansas City, Patrick Laird and Lynn Bowden share snaps in the backfield. Washington should receive the bulk of the between the numbers carries, whilst Laird and Bowden will be prominent in the passing game.

Gaskin had just returned from a knee injury and was due to not carry an injury designation heading into tomorrow’s game. He was limited in practice this week, but his status was never in any real doubt.

After the COVID designation, the Dolphins elevated former New York Jets running back Elijah McGuire to the active roster alongside Chris Myarick and Tyshun Render.
