Tua Tagovailoa signs 4-year deal

Dolphins rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa has signed his rookie contract and will be in the house as soon as team activities startup. The fifth pick in the 2020 NFL draft has signed his rookie wage scale deal that will see him earn $30.28 million over four years, with a team option for a fifth year.

Rookie deals are mostly standard these days, but getting Tua Tagovailoa inked and able to take part in all activities, be they virtual or real world, was a major priority for the Miami Dolphins.

Tua Tagovailoa will be in camp

The only flexibility teams have in monetary terms with the new contracts is the amount of the signing bonus and Tua’s deal has a $16.9 million signing bonus.

In all likelihood, Tagovailoa will start the season as the number two quarterback on the Dolphins roster behind incumbent Ryan Fitzpatrick. But the Dolphins will want him to get studying as soon as possible so that he can learn as much behind Fitz in year 1 as possible.

Medically cleared for all activities, Tua Tagovailoa was the Dolphins first of three first-round selection in the 2020 NFL draft in April.
