Albert Wilson renegotiates for 2020

Veteran WR Albert Wilson has renegotiated his contract to stay in Miami for the 2020 season. Rumours had been circulating in the last few days that Wilson could be done with the Dolphins, but this move shores up the WR position and Wilson’s spot on the roster.

A free-agent signing in the spring of 2018, Albert Wilson was in the final year of a 3-year $24 million dollar contract. He had a non-guaranteed base salary of $9,475,000 this season and would’ve carried a $10.8 million cap number

Albert Wilson’s explosive first season

Having signed from Kansas City in 2018, Wilson quickly became a fan favourite with his explosiveness, and ability to break big plays. In week three against the Raiders, Wilson completed his only pass of the season, a 52-yarder to Jakeem Grant.

But it was his 155 yards, and 2 touchdowns against the Bears in week 6 that have forever locked him into the hearts of many Dolfans. Scoring from 43 yards, and 75 yards, the second tieing the game with 3:02 left in the 4th quarter.

Wilson would injure his hip the following week against Detroit and miss the remainder of the 2018 season. Working his way back in slowly, he would finish 2019 with 43 receptions for 351 yards and 1 touchdown.

However, Wilson looked to be regaining some of that trademark explosiveness at the end of the season, posting his three best games in the last three games.

Wilson’s new deal will give him a chance to prove he is back to his explosive best before testing the free-agent market in 2021. It also gives the Dolphins a chance to see what Wilson has before potentially resigning him.
