Dolphins trade former 22nd pick Charles Harris

Charles Harris has become the Dolphin’s latest admission of failure with their first-round picks as he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons for a seventh-round pick. The edge rusher was selected with the 22nd pick of the 2017 draft out of Missouri.

It was somewhat of a surprise when Harris was drafted as he was ranked as the seventh edge defender and a borderline first-round talent. While edge was a need, the Dolphins had glaring holes across the defense, and offensive line.

Charles Harris never got off the ground in Miami

Harris will be looking to ignite his career with the Falcons having appeared in 41 games for the Dolphins, and putting up pretty sedate numbers. With just 3.5 sacks, 2 coming in his rookie season, and 23 quarterback hits, Harris never really got off the blocks in Miami.

Taken ahead of names like Tre’Davious White, TJ Watt, Budda Baker, and Shaquil Griffin on the defensive side of the ball. Harris was also selected ahead of notable offensive talents such as Alvin Kamara, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kareem Hunt, and Chis Godwin.

While you can always look back and see who teams should’ve taken, the Dolphins have a history of missing on first-round prospects of late. With the trade of Charles Harris, only one of the Dolphins’ 2009-2018 first-round picks remain on the roster.

With the trade of Charles Harris, only DeVante Parker remains

Charles Harris becomes the fifth first-rounder to be traded by the Dolphins in the last ten-seasons, including the last three selections. DeVante Parker is the sole surviving member of the first-round selections.

Ironically, the Dolphins cut another former 2012 first-round edge rusher in Taco Charlton. Orginally selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the 28th pick, Charlton appeared in five games for the Dolphins, contributing 5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.

We wish them both luck with their futures.
