3 hot takes as Dolphins topple Texans in Miami

It was an eight win of the season for the Dolphins as the NFL’s worst team came to town and were soundly beaten (mostly).

But, if you want a nice review of the game visit ESPN or one of the other many news outlets. Here at Aqua Thirteen we’re going to give you our 3 hot takes from Sunday’s game.

Terron Armstead may be the Dolphins real MVP

When Armstead left the game the Dolphins offence literally fell apart. In the second half the Dolphins mustered only two drives over 20 yards (23 and 22) and posted 4 (FOUR) 3-and-outs.

Not taking anything away from Tua Tagovailoa, who also left the game so that he didn’t get injured, but Armstead makes this OL look elite. Without him it was shades of 2021.

In 336 pass block snaps Armstead has surrendered 13 pressures. Brandon Shell gave up 5 in just 23 snaps in relief. It was a genuinely scary experience, and one the Dolphins really do not need to see against a good defence.

Jaelen Phillips and Bradley Chubb are dangerous

The dynamic duo of Phillips and Chubb helped the Dolphins defensive line terrorise the Texans OL all day. Phillips (5) and Chubb (4) look set to be the kind of dynamic duo that could go down in history if they keep up these kinds of performances.

There will be much tougher opposition, but the Dolphins future at edge looks to be set for years to come. There have been a lot of questions about Josh Boyer as the Dolphins DC, but with talent like this he’s surely able to pull the unit around and make it back into the quality unit it was the last two seasons.

The running game collapsed without Mostert

Raheem Mostert being inactive affected the Dolphins run game way more than I expected with just 66 yards on 24 carries at a 2.8 clip. The running game has struggled at times earlier this season, but today was a shock.

The Texans rank 32nd in the league, dead last, averaging 168.6 yards per game. So for them to shut down the Dolphins quite so extensively will be a worry for HC Mike McDaniel. Couple that with the ongoing injury concern with Terron Armstead, and Austin Jackson leaving the game again late, the run game and OL are the only concerns in what is looking like a team capable of making a deep run.
